Whitthall 16th November, 1927.
sir,
with reference to your letter (T 12541/12067/373) of the 25th ultimo regarding Ar. Ho Shai Lai (Robert Ho Tung), I am directed by Secretary Sir William Joynson-Hicks to say for the information of Secretary Sir Austen Chamberlain, that until he learns the precise terms of the declaration which this man is believed to have made and before whom it was made, Sir Willian Joynson-Hicks is unable to advise whether it can be regarded as operating to deprive the declarant of British nationality. Sir William Joynson-Hicks will be
much obliged therefore if Sir Austen Chamberlain will endeavour to obtain a copy of the declaration which Ho Shai Lai is believed to have made on the 2nd August, the facts of which the police understood were to be reported to the Foreign office by the Legation.
I am, Sir,
Your obedient Servant,
The Under Secretary of State,
FOREIGN OFFICE.
